After remixing Idriss D’s “Alger”, Eduardo De La Calle returns to Memento Records with a 2 tracker. The Spanish vinyl maestro, Analog Solutions label owner and Beatz documentary maker delivers 2 majestic cuts of Deep Techno at its best, inspired by the early Ricardo Villalobos music released on Kanzleramt or Playhouse some 15 years ago.
Following the same ideas of building and de-constructing sound patterns made up of pure Minimal elements, Eduardo here tries to be as simple as he can: direct and repetitive, back and forth non stop compositions that take on a life of their own as they expand and contract. The EP was made in a week of intense and mesmerizing studio work.
“Die Einfuhrung” is a 10 minute number where Korg Poly 61 arpeggios and spellbinding melodies draw the listener down a psychedelic hole of frequency shiftings and lysergic percussions. “Sonst Werden” is built around hazy chords and ghostly vocal snippets soaked in a feedback of tape delay, sinister ambient sounds vibrating in the background.

’La Macarena’ is one of the brightest lights in Barcelona’s glimmering nightlife, and a landmark of the Spanish techno scene. 17 years in daily business brought thousands of electronic artists behind the decks and countless dancers and electronic music lovers on the floor of the legendary micro club. The new music label ’Macarena Musica’ features musical contributions by ’Macerena’ resident artists and special guests - all of them share a big love for ’La Macarena’ and Barcelona. The passionate crafted releases come as limited vinyl-editions and extended digital packages, complete with expressive black-and-white artworks, capturing the atmosphere of the club and the streets of Barna.
For the debut release, ’Macarena’ longterm-resident Patrick Zigon teamed up with his friend Paulo Olarte for ’Belleza Tropical’ - a declaration of love to the club and the heart warming vibe of Barcelona, which is strongly coloured by the latin way of life. It’s not surprising at all that this beautiful inspiration led Patrick Zigon to a tropical excursion into the deep cosmos of latin-infused Techno and House music. As in many previous collaborations, Paulo Olarte refines the productions of the Berlin-based producer with his naughty vocals, resulting in a poetic and love-driven statement for the latin familia. ’Belleza Tropical’ is the first glimpse into Zigon’s third studio album ’Between The Lines’, coming up in summer on his ’Traumraum’ imprint. Beside the Original and Instrumental versions, the single features remixes by the Spanish master of hypnotic techno, señor Eduardo De La Calle, Paulo Olarte and Blanali (digital only). London’s Release/Sustain imprint returns this April with a four-track package featuring material from Eduardo De La Calle, XDB, Joey Anderson Moody Waters feat. Carolina Damas.
The Release/Sustain imprint has gone from strength to strength over the years, welcoming the likes of Alton Miller, DJ Aakmael, Benjamin Brunn, Losoul, Norm Talley and many more respected names in underground house and techno over its past twenty nine releases.
Here we see this continue with some more welcome additions, first up is Eduardo De La Calle with ‘The Protosoul’ and as always the Spanish artist offers up a perfectly crafter slice of hazy, groove-driven Techno, led by bleepy arps, winding stabs and robust analogue rhythms. XDB then offers up heady, subtly blooming leads, pulsing subs and shuffled drums with ‘Another Night’ next.
Opening the flip is New York’s Joey Anderson with ‘Drum Play’ which as the name suggest sees the percussive aspects dynamically evolve throughout amongst choppy bass hits, stutter arpeggio blips and warm string melodies. Moody Waters then teams up with Carolina Damas, vocalist on anthemic house cut ‘Sueno Latino’ for ‘Acid Lovin’’, edging into deeper territory with ethereal pads, crunchy drums and squelching 303 licks while Damas’ soft, spoken-word Latin vocals wander within.

The first two tracks, “Hyde Number 1.34.“ and “Hyde Number 8.47.“ are uncompromising driving techno tracks built on hypnotic chords and roaring synths with rousing snares and effects, ready to destroy the dance floors of dark techno clubs worldwide. In contrast, “Hyde Number 66.4.“ convinces with its melancholic pads and lush deepness; the clever disharmonic approach makes its beauty more than special, and it was already featured on Patrick Zigon’s exclusive mix compilation for the 15th anniversary of the legendary “Macarena Club Barcelona“, released in October.
